Abstract
The paper presents two methods of identifying the characteristics of combustion process heat release in four-stroke piston combustion engine with the use of experimentally obtained indicator diagrams. One of the characteristics was determined after previously stating the self-ignition delay period. The other characteristics was found making an assumption that the complete, perfect combustion process was finished until the instant of the start of exhaust gases outflow from the cylinder.
Both methods take into account the change in the quantity of combustion products while the process takes place, the dependence of specific heats on the working medium composition and temperature and convection heat transfer between the working medium and the combustion chamber walls. Calculations were made for indicator diagrams of the engine operating in external speed characteristics regime, fuelled with the same fuel and the same fuel charge per engine cycle.
