1.5-METER LOW SPEED WIND TUNNEL T1

The T1 Wind Tunnel is a closed-circuit, continuous-flow low speed tunnel with a 1.5 meter diameter open test section. Typical tests include measurements of forces and moments, surface pressure distribution, and flow visualisation of models of various aircraft, helicopters, buildings, ships, cars, trains and two-dimensional airfoils. Aircraft models with up to 1.05 m wing span, half models of 1 m semi-spa, mockup body (buildings) of 1 m high or 0.18 m2 cross section area (perpendicular to flow direction) can be tested.

Testing activities

  • Airfoils model balance tests - 2D tests and airplane models - 3D tests,
  • Roughness effect tests,
  • Optimisation of flap geometry and position,
  • Hinge-moment optimisation for ailerons and tail units,
  • Pressure distribution tests,
  • Tufts and minitufts with UV-light flow visualisations,
  • Smoke flow visualisation.
