PISTON ENGINE LABORATORY
Piston engine research and development is focused primarily on combustion processes, turbocharging and emissions.
Eight test beds provide brake dynamometer testing capabilities from 30 - 400 kW as well as SIGNAL pollution analysis and AVL Smart Sampler particulates detection and measurement
capabilities.
The laboratory was given Test Laboratory Accreditation (Certificate No. AB 130) in February 2007 by the Polish Accreditation Center and also conforms to ISO standard PN-EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005.
Test scope
Laboratory conducts research works on:
- Main engine's characteristics according to national and
international standards,
- Smoke value according to ECE Regulation
R24,
- Emissions of gaseous exhaust pollutants and particulate according
to ECE Regulation R49 to determine basic performance curves
of engine being subject to testing.
- Measurements and processing of high speed in-cylinder and
injection system events,
- Measurements of temperatures in range of 0 to 1000 degrees
centigrade,
- Measurements of engine's speed and torque,
- Measurements of fuel consumption, air and exhaust gas flows,
- Estimation of engine's characteristics end emissions according
to ECE Regulations R49,
- Estimation of speed-, full- and partial-load-, no-load and
governor characteristic curves according to PN-, ISO- and ECE
Standards.
- Research and technological development works in domain of
I.C. engines with power output 30 ÷ 400 kW including optimization
of combustion process, intake and injection systems and turbocharging,
- Research and development activity in range of fuel systems
for Diesel engines.
